Lifepak20e AED defibrillator

Lifepak20e AED defibrillator

The LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor has been a medical industry standard since the year 2002, when it was first introduced for purchase. Now, this defibrillator has been enhanced and is offered as the LIFEPAK 20e. It still possesses all of its industry topping capabilities, but now it has a more powerful Lithium-ion battery. This new Lifepak AED features twice as much ECG monitoring time. It also improves the length of time that its other features, such as its noninvasive pacing and pulse oximetry, can function. This enhanced LIFEPAK 20e defibrillator also has an upgraded, user friendly way to watch the battery life for the machine. The available battery capacity is shown to the user on an easy to understand screen. This display is shown in real-time so that those using the monitor will easily be able to determine how much battery life is remaining.

This defibrillator is very easy to use because it is built to be very intuitive for the user, making the process of learning this particular machine less difficult. It offers two methods of operation. One, the AED function, is established for the BLS-trained responder while the manual capacity allows the ALS-trained responder to perform more advanced diagnostics and therapy.

The LIFEPAK 20e is also well equipped with cprMAX technology. This feature supports the 2005 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care and the European Resuscitation Council Guidelines for Resuscitation 2005. This powerful technology is an advancement that allows for customization of the timing between CPR and defibrillation administration. cprMAX will provide a specified CPR interval before it delivers the initial shock. It will also offer the responder with the option of providing CPR while the machine is charging. It can prompt for CPR after each shock is delivered. It also provides customization for the timing of the pulse check.

The LIFEPAK 20e is easy to transport by design. Its dimensions (in inches) are 8.4 x 10.3 x 10.3 (H x W x D). This defibrillator weighs 12.3 pounds. With this design, the machine is very compact and lightweight to make transfer easy.

Physio-Control is a division of Medtronic and is located in Redmond, Washington. This company has been in the field of defibrillation for more than 50 years. It has, in fact, been a pioneer in this field of technology. Selling nearly 700,000 LIFEPAKS worldwide, Physio-Control has earned its top position as the leader of providing external defibrillators to help aid in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.

Physio-Control works under the watchful eye of the US Food and Drug Administration in order to stay in compliance with its rules and regulations. The LIFEPAK 20e has received clearance from the FDA for customer purchase. Physio-Control works very hard to ensure that all of its products make it to market shelves because, after all, this is life saving technology.

This device is recommended for hospital use. This AED is not intended for use on children less than 8 years of age.

Lifepak 20e device capacity

The LIFEPAK 20e is capable of producing up to a 360 joule shock. This shock is reserved for patients who do not respond to previous smaller shocks. Because this device is able to start at a lower shock and work its way up to a higher voltage, therapy can be tailored to the individual patient. It has been shown to be better therapy to increase the dose of subsequent shocks if the initial shock does not provide adequate treatment rather than repeating the same shock dosage. This defibrillator takes advantage of ADAPTIVE technology allowing the machine to automatically adjust the shock treatment based upon the patient’s condition.

A new and fully charged internal (back up) battery will provide the following:

Total Monitoring plus Sp02 time: 210 minutes
After low battery warning: 5 minutes

Total monitoring, plus pace, plus Sp02 time: 110 minutes
After low battery warning: 2 minutes

Defibrillation (360J discharges): 140
After low battery warning: 3

With a fully charged battery:
Charge time to 200 joules is 4 seconds
Charge time to 360 joules is less than 7 seconds

The LIFEPAK 20e is ready to shock within 16 seconds if it is using a fully charged battery and the initial rhythm finding is “Shock Advised.”

The LIFEPAK 20e is an AC line powered device that has an internal battery to act as backup.

AC Powered: 90–132 VAC 50/60Hz, 198–264 VAC 50/60HZ
The machine’s total power draw is less than 120 Volt-Amperes (VA).

Internal Battery Backup: The defibrillator’s internal Lithium Ion battery charges while the device is connected to an AC power source. The battery will typically charge in less than fours hours when the machine is switched to off and is connected to an AC power outlet.

If the machine is in use and disconnected from the AC power source, it will automatically switch over to its internal back up battery. When the back up battery begins to run low, it alerts the user by light and sound indication. The first warning will be a yellow segment, a “low battery” message and a warning tone. The next warning is a flashing red segment, a “low battery; connect to AC power” message and a warning tone.
